This standard applies to a sealer used to prevent the release of asbestos fibres from asbestos-containing materials. This sealer is not suitable for highly friable materials. This standard helps the user to select a specific type and class of sealer, described in par.3.1. It does not address concerns about any change in properties or characteristics of the material, including fire resistance, that could be attributed to the sealing process, nor does it address the decision of whether or not to use a sealer. The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous.
